A non-profit organization focusing on literature and the arts, the Mudra Swari Saraswati Foundation, recently announced the dates for this year’s Ubud Writers and Readers Festival, which will take place from Oct. 26 to 29, bringing together young writers, filmmakers and artists from across the archipelago.
This year, the festival will be hosted by the Joglo at Taman Baca (Library Park), comprising a series of panel discussions, workshops and performances spanning four key areas of the arts: writing, design, music and film. The programs will be conducted in both English and Indonesian.
The festival strives to connect industry professionals and established artists, writers and performers with young creative minds to develop their skills and confidence to pursue a career in the industry.
“Professional development opportunities for young creative [talents] are still relatively scarce in Indonesia. Through Emerging Voices [a program for emerging writers], we hope to instill confidence in participants and their families so that despite the challenges, a career in the arts is not only viable, but respectable. It’s something to be nourished and celebrated,” UWRF founder and director Janet DeNeefe said.
