our Surabaya residents have reported popular preacher Jam’an Nurchotib Mansur, widely known as Yusuf Mansur, to the police for alleged investment fraud.
The four people claimed they had given Yusuf millions of rupiah for the construction of a condotel in Yogyakarta, however the building has not been constructed, their lawyer, Sudarsono Arief Bakuama, said.
He said the number of fraud victims could be in the thousands, as many people in other cities had also invested in the project. “So far only four people have asked us to report YM,” he said, referring to Yusuf’s initials.
His clients, he said, had purchased between one and five investment certifications from Yusuf, whereas each certificate cost Rp 2.7 million (US$203). East Java Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Barung Mangera said the force would follow up on the report.
