P

olice have shot dead a man they claim was planning to attack them while he was under arrest in connection with the death of Davidson Tantono, who was killed in Daan Mogot when he tried to stop several men from stealing a large sum of money from him.

Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said on Tuesday that the man they shot, identified only as SFL, 30, was arrested in Banyuwangi, East Java, and had confessed that he had dumped the murder weapon, a gun, on Jl. Arteri Porong Sidoarjo in East Java.

“When we found the weapon he tried to seize it. Hence, we did a justifiable action there,” Argo said.

He added that SFL was immediately transported to the Dr. Sutomo Hospital in Surabaya but he died at the hospital.

On Saturday, the police shot another man, IR, who was allegedly acting as the deputy of a gang, in Karawang, West Java.

The police announced they have arrested seven people allegedly involved in the Daan Mogot case so far. SFL, who they said acted as the gang leader and who they accuse of shooting Davidson, 30, was arrested on Monday night along with another man they said hindered the chase and SFL’s girlfriend, who police allege managed a hideout for the gang members.

During the arrests, the police confiscated Rp 6 million (US$452), six cellphones and jackets allegedly worn during the fatal robbery.

On June 9, Davidson was shot in the head at a gas station when he tried to get his bag of money back from robbers. The bag contained Rp 350 million he had just withdrawn from a bank. (wnd)
