aiwanese nationals involved in the largest drug-smuggling case in Indonesia got around Rp 400 million (US$30,000) each for shipping one ton of crystal methamphetamine to the country on July 13, police said.
"The ship’s [five] crew members got the biggest share, each got Rp 430 million," Jakarta Police narcotics unit head Adj. Sr. Cmr. Bambang Yudhantara said.
The crew sailed the Wanderlust ship carrying one ton of crystal meth from Taiwan across the Sunda Strait.
Four other foreigners involved in unloading the vessel at the seaport in Serang, Banten, received Rp 200 million each, Bambang added.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Taiwanese police arrested three people in Taiwan in relation to the case.
"We are going to investigate them in Taiwan," Bambang said on Thursday, as quoted by kompas.com.
The operation was aimed at distributing one ton of crystal meth across greater Jakarta. The narcotics have a black market value of almost Rp 2 trillion. (hol)
