To mark this year’s golden jubilee of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Indonesian Foreign Ministry will organize the ASEAN 50 Parade on Aug. 27 in Jakarta.
The parade will traverse a 3.4-kilometer route from the National Monument on Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, and it will finish at the statue of Gen. Soedirman on Jl. Jend. Sudirman. It seeks to attract around 2,000 to 3,000 participants who will showcase a variety show on the Jakarta Car-Free Day.
The ministry is currently inviting Indonesian citizens to participate in the parade through different types of performances, such as a costume show, dance and musical performances, or exhibitions demonstrating a variety of skills.
The parade seeks to exhibit the uniqueness and richness of ASEAN culture while boosting public awareness and community involvement. The golden jubilee will also feature the diverse culinary traditions of ASEAN countries while presenting information on myriad cooperation opportunities in ASEAN for Indonesians.
As the nation’s capital, Jakarta is home to the ASEAN Secretariat. It is no wonder the city has long been referred to as “the diplomatic capital of ASEAN”. Since its establishment in 1967, ASEAN has proven its capabilities as a community of friendly nations that maintains regional security, boosts economic growth and attracts investment, all the while proving that cultural identities and religious diversity can live together in harmony across borders.
