mmigration authorities have extended the travel ban on House of Representatives Speaker and Golkar Party chairman Setya Novanto despite a recent pretrial ruling annulling the decision of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to name him a suspect in the high-profile e-ID case.

“The Directorate General of Immigration received the travel ban request on Monday,” said the directorate general’s spokesman, Agung Sampurno, on Tuesday.

He added that the travel ban was issued upon request from the KPK and was intended to support the antigraft body’s investigation into the e-ID case.

The ban is effective from Monday until April 2018. The previous travel ban for Setya began in April and was supposed to end this month.

Setya was named a suspect in the case on July 17 by the KPK.

He is suspected of playing a role in swindling Rp 5.9 trillion (US$434.40 million) out of the project.

The KPK estimates that the alleged corruption has caused more than Rp 2 trillion in state losses.
