hree officers of the police's elite Mobile Brigade (Brimob), who were stationed at an oil exploration facility owned by PT Sarana GSS Trembul in Central Java's Blora regency, were killed at the facility on Tuesday.
The incident took place when Chief Brig. Bambang Tejo allegedly gunned down Brimob members Brig. Budi Wibowo and Brig. Ahmad Supriyanto at about 6 p.m. on Tuesday, before Bambang shot himself in the head.
"So far, the possibility is that the motive was a personal matter," Central Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Condro Kirono said in Semarang, the capital of Central Java, on Wednesday.
The weapon used in the incident was an AK 101, an assault rifle traditionally used by the Brimob.
Following the incident, Condro promised an internal investigation, saying that the three police officers had in fact undergone a psychology test, which is mandatory for officers to carry guns.
It was not the first time that such an incident has occurred in Indonesia.
In May, Chief Brig. Teguh Dwiyatno was found dead in a garage in South Tangerang, Banten, after allegedly shooting himself in the head.
In 2015, at least seven police officers committed suicide, including one who killed himself with a .38-caliber revolver. (ipa)
