The Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) will deploy a female referee for the first time at the National Youth Championship Pertamina Piala Soeratin Under-15 and U-17 or the Soeratin Cup.
Deliana Fatmawati, a FIFA-licensed referee, will join her male colleagues at the tournament, which runs from Oct. 14-28, the association said.
Deliana’s presence gives another hue to Indonesian soccer after Ratu Tisha Destria was appointed PSSI’s first female secretary-general.
Besides Deliana, six other females will be match officials at the tournament. They are Marti Sugiyani (match supervisor) and assistant referees Sumarni, Mimin Mintarsih, Wiwin Mintarsih, Azizah Alfionta and Mitra Coriena Sjumanja.
As many as 30 teams are taking part in the Soeratin Cup’s U-15 division, while 32 team are participating in the U-17 category. The tournament is being played in eight stadiums across Yogyakarta and Magelang, Central Java.
