flight attendant and two passengers on a Batik Air flight reportedly suffered injuries when the aircraft experienced severe turbulence en route from Jakarta to Medan on Tuesday.

Kualanamu International Airport branch communication and legal manager Wisnu Budi Setianto said the three people received medical treatment at the airport’s Port Health Office (KKP).

The Batik Air plane flew back to Jakarta early on Wednesday, he added.

“The aircraft has arrived in Jakarta. The injured victims have been handled by the medical team,” Wisnu told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

He further explained that the Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft, which carried 114 passengers, was struck by turbulence at 20,000 feet. The incident occurred at around 3 p.m. local time on Tuesday.

Wisnu said the plane managed to land smoothly at Kualanamu Airport in Deli Serdang regency, North Sumatra, at 5:33 p.m. (dra/ebf)
