View all search resultsA fire raged through a densely populated area in Cawang, East Jakarta, on Friday, allegedly due to a gas leak in one of the homes.
East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency operational head Gatot Sulaeman said the fire, which damaged six houses, started at around 10 a.m.
“One of the residents was cooking at that time. There was a gas leak and [the fire] came in contact with plastic material,” Gatot said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
The resident was reportedly using a 3-kilogram LPG canister.
Residents initially panicked and tried to save their belongings, but firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and the fire was successfully extinguished.
The agency deployed 14 fire trucks to put out the blaze.
No fatalities were reported in the incident, but the damages are estimated to cost tens of millions of rupiah. (wnd)
