he Jakarta Police arrested two South Korean nationals Baik Jongwoon, 40, and Sea Songwoon, 38, on Wednesday for allegedly kidnapping a 10-year-old child, who is also South Korean.
Based on the police’s initial findings, the two suspects allegedly staged the kidnapping in South Korea and brought the child to Indonesia, kompas.com reported.
"We arrested them in two different locations. Baik Jongwoon was arrested at a hotel in Sudirman area, South Jakarta, where the child and another boy were held captive," Jakarta Police violent crimes unit head Adj. Sr. Comr. Hendy F. Kurniawan said.
He added that the police then rushed to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, and arrested Sea Songwoon, who was about to return to his country with two girls.
They demanded that the child’s parents pay a ransom, according to the police.
"The child’s parents had transferred 150 million won as requested by Jongwoon. The amount is equal to Rp 1.8 billion," Hendy said at Jakarta Police headquarters on Thursday.
The South Korean Police first reported the case to the South Korean Embassy in Jakarta, which then contacted the Jakarta Police on Wednesday afternoon. (fac)
