undreds of cyclists participating in the Tour de Central Celebes departed from the starting point in Ampana, Tojo Una-Una regency, Central Sulawesi, on Monday.
Central Sulawesi Governor Longki Djanggola led a ceremony to mark the start of the cycling competition.
The first étape comprises a 198-kilometer route that ends on the edge of Poso Lake in Tentena, Poso regency, where the cyclists will stay overnight.
“The cyclists were scheduled to arrive at the finish line of the first étape at 2 p.m. local time,” said Central Sulawesi Tourism Agency head Ardiansyah Lamasitudju.
He further said that in Tentena, the cyclists would be entertained with several cultural and tourism events, such as traditional dance performances and a local culinary exhibition. Poso Lake is home to several tourist destinations, such as the Air Terjun Tujuh Tingkat waterfalls.
The cyclists will start the second étape, a 135.6-km route that stretches from Poso to Parigi, after Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi officiates a ceremony that ends with them departing at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. They are scheduled to arrive in Parigi at 12:02 p.m.
Meanwhile, the third étape, which covers a 153.3-km route from Parigi to Sigi regency and Palu city, will start at noon on Tuesday. The cyclists are expected to touch the finish line in front of the Central Sulawesi governor's office in Palu at 3:34 p.m. (dra/ebf)
