T

he National Police’s counterterrorism unit Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) has apprehended seven individuals in Central Sulawesi over their suspected links to the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) terror group.

Densus 88 chief spokesman Sr. Comr. Aswin Siregar confirmed on Thursday in Jakarta that the arrest had taken place, but that police had issued no official statement because the investigation was still ongoing.

"At present, investigators are still conducting an intensive [investigation]," Aswin said, as quoted by Antara.

Separately, Central Sulawesi Police chief Insp. Gen. Agus Nugroho also confirmed that Densus 88 personnel had arrested seven individuals with suspected JI ties on Tuesday.

Agus said four of the seven individuals were suspected JI members from Palu and identified them by their initials AR, BS, GN and BK. He identified the remaining suspects as MH and HR from Sigi regency and SK from Poso regency.

He added that an initial Densus 88 raid at two houses on Jl. Lagarutu in Talise Valangguni village in Palu had netted various items as evidence, including laptops and mobile phones. A follow-up search was conducted in coordination with the Central Sulawesi Police’s bomb squad at a house in Kalukubula village, Sigi regency.
