A

group of Australian sports scientists and retired elite athletes will deliver a series of workshops and coaching clinics this week for Indonesian coaches, athletes and sports academics in Jakarta and Surabaya, the Australian Embassy in Jakarta said in a statement on Tuesday.

The group, from the University of Canberra's Research Institute for Sport and Exercise, brings broad experience in sports science and coaching, particularly in basketball and soccer, the embassy said.

The delegation includes former WNBA and WNBL basketballer Kristen Veal, who is now head coach of the women's program at Basketball Australia's Centre of Excellence, and Holly Houston, a former midfielder with the Canberra United Football Club's women's national league.

"This series of workshops and clinics are a great opportunity to share sporting expertise as Australian prepares to host the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April 2018, and Jakarta and Palembang host the Asian Games in August 2018," said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Paul Grigson.

A workshop is to be held Tuesday for Indonesian coaches, sports academics, administrators and senior athletes at the Australian Embassy in South Jakarta.

The group will also run basketball and soccer coaching clinics in Surabaya on Nov. 22, hosted by the Development Basketball League (DBL) and the Australian Consulate-General, Surabaya. (dmr)
