Former Jakarta governor Sutiyoso has been appointed adviser to the current city administration leaders, a top official has said.
"Today, Bang Yos has been officially included in the governor forum as an adviser to Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno. We will ask him for suggestions," Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said at City Hall on Tuesday, referring to Jakarta’s governor from 1997-2007 by his nickname.
Sandiaga said the current administration could learn from Sutiyoso, who closed down the Kramat Tunggak red-light district and initiated the development of Transjakarta.
Sutiyoso, a retired three-star Army general, welcomed the appointment, saying he had been paying close attention to the development of Jakarta.
"I will try to give input. Although I’m an outsider, I continue to monitor the city's situation," he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Sutiyoso also served as State Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief between 2015 and 2016. (fac)
