The Jakarta administration will allocate Rp 229 billion (US$24.8 million) to build a mental hospital next year.
Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said the Duren Sawit Regional Hospital in East Jakarta would be developed into a mental hospital.
"We want the Duren Sawit Hospital to be a special hospital for psychiatric patients. We have just started budgeting for the development. Moreover, the bidding process will start soon and we hope that the development project will be finished by 2019," said Sandiaga on Sunday, as quoted by kompas.com.
The head of the Jakarta Health Agency, Koesmedi Priharto, said the development was needed because the capacity of the existing hospital was not enough to accommodate all the patients.
“We will add more beds in the hospital and we will construct one more building too. We will also provide patients with jobs and more activities to facilitate the healing process,” said Koesmedi on Monday. (roi)
