he Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) has warned people about false discounts and products unfit for consumption, which are rampant as the end of the year approaches.
“Consumers should be careful not to buy products with expiry dates that are approaching, or that have already passed,” YLKI chairman Tulus Abadi said in a press release on Monday.
Consumers should also be especially careful regarding discounts for fashion products, he said, as many retailers increased prices before applying discounts during the holiday season.
“We often find a 100-percent price increase on fashion products before a 50-percent discount is offered. This practice is a violation of the law,” he said.
The YLKI also demanded the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) and the Health Agency increase monitoring and market inspections near the end of the year.
“The YLKI also requests that the police strengthen law enforcement on product trade violations,” Tulus added.
