he host of the 2018 Asian Games will run the Tour d’Indonesia cycling race in January as part of its efforts to promote the quadrennial sporting event, set to take place in August in Jakarta and Palembang, South Sumatra.
The tour, which is categorized as a 2.1 event in the Union Cycliste Interntionale’s (UCI) calendar, will cover 755 kilometers, starting from the Borobudur Temple in Central Java to Denpasar in Bali. It is scheduled for Jan. 23-25.
As many as 25 Pro Tour, Pro Continental, Continental and National teams are set to partake in the event.
Indonesian Cycling Federation (ISSI) chief Raja Sapta Oktohari said the race would carry images related to the 2018 Asian Games and the 2018 Asian Para Games.
“I really hope that both the 2018 Games and the Para Games will run smoothly,” Okto, who is also chief of the Indonesian Asian Para Games Organizing Committee (INAPGOC), said on Monday as quoted by Antara.
