T

he Jakarta administration is urged to manage traffic from the athletes’ village in Kemayoran to the Asian Games venue at the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex in Central Jakarta, to comply with standards set by the Organizing Committee of Asia (OCA) regarding the athletes’ traveling time.

The OCA has stated travel time between the two points shall not exceed 34 minutes.

However, from the simulation conducted by the city administration, a trip between the two premises is estimated to take 50 minutes owing to traffic congestion.

Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency head Ratiyono said the city administration had prepared alternatives regarding the matter, for instance, by preparing a special lane for vehicles transporting athletes.

Besides that, various forms of traffic control will be employed on the routes that will be passed by event contingents.

“The traffic control will be conducted so we won’t exceed the travel time requirement set by the OCA,” Ratiyono said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

He added that he would discuss the matter further with Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno, the transportation agency and traffic police. (cal)
