Indonesia is to take on Sri Lanka in relegation play-offs in April to determine which team will compete in Group 3 of the Asia/Oceania zone in this year’s Davis Cup tennis team tournament.

Indonesia and Sri Lanka, currently in Group 2 of the Asia/Oceania zone, were sent to the play-offs after losing to the Philippines and Thailand, respectively.

Indonesia lost 3-1 to the Philippines in the two-day competition held over the weekend at the outdoor tennis court in the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex in Senayan, Jakarta. The venue has been revamped for the upcoming Asian Games in August and September.

Over the same weekend in Colombo, Sri Lanka lost 3-2 to Thailand.

Ahead of April’s face-off, Deddy Prasetyo of the Indonesian Tennis Association (PELTI) said he would immediately groom the players within the remaining time.

“I think two months are enough to prepare [the athletes], especially as they are set to have trials at a national competition in Makassar [South Sulawesi] in March,” Deddy added, as quoted by Antara on Sunday.
