Motorcycle manufacturer PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) has launched a new scooter in Indonesia, the Honda PCX 150.
The vehicle was presented on Wednesday as part of the company’s efforts to focus on the premium end of the market amid lackluster overall consumer spending.
The automatic scooter is priced at Rp 27.7 million (US$2,044) for the version featuring a combined-braking system (CBS), while the higher-end anti-lock braking system (ABS) model is offered at Rp 30.7 million.
The new PCX model was first announced last December. Customers had already placed pre-orders for 12,000 motorcycles, AHM marketing director Thomas Wijaya told reporters on Wednesday.
“We have set a production and sales target of 150,000 units for the year,” he said.
He added that automatic scooters only made up about 5 percent of AHM’s total annual sales, for which the company was targeting a figure of 4.4 to 4.6 million for 2018.
Honda PCX research and development head Yasuyuki Maeda said the initial PCX model had been marketed in 2009 and had been upgraded three times since: in 2012, 2014 and 2018.
He added that the newest model boasted a maximum speed of 101 to 104 kilometers per hour and engine power of 10.8 kilowatts. AHM also launched a line of accessories to go with the new motorcycle, which comes in four colors: gold, white, black and matte red, which was specially chosen for the Indonesian market. (kmt/bbn)
