he Bali Police have arrested six people, including two Turkish nationals and three Indonesians, for allegedly kidnapping a Bulgarian man on the resort island.
The six, who are now suspects, demanded a ransom of US$20,000 from a friend of the kidnapped Bulgarian in exchange for his release. The police identified the victim as George Jordanov.
The victim suffered minor injuries, said Bali Police director of general crimes Sr. Comr. Sang Made Mahendra Jaya at a press conference on Wednesday.
“The victim had been confined for around three days in a boarding house in Jimbaran,” Mahendra said.
The investigation started when the police received information from a staff member at the Bulgarian Embassy in Jakarta.
“There was no official report filed with the police. We only received information from the embassy staff. But we decided to follow up on the information,” Mahendra added.
Jordanov was kidnapped while he was strolling along the Legian area in front of a Turkish kebab restaurant owned by one of the suspects.
The investigators suspected that there was an economic motive behind the kidnapping. However, the suspects, according to the police, told the investigators that it was an act of vengeance.
