Talk of The Week: ARTOTEL shows love for orphans, elderly on Valentine’s Day

The ARTOTEL Group – best known for its artsy hotels in Jakarta, Surabaya in East Java, Bali and Yogyakarta – has just celebrated Valentine’s Day by showing some love to children and the elderly who live in orphanages and nursing homes, respectively, through a social activity called #ARTOTELCares.

The social activity was organized simultaneously by the group on Feb. 13 in three different orphanages and a nursing home in the four cities where ARTOTEL hotels operate: the Dorkas orphanage in Jakarta, the Budi Dharma nursing home in Yogyakarta, the Pondok Kasih orphanage in Surabaya and the Elishama orphanage in Bali.

That day, staff members from each ARTOTEL hotel in each city involved the orphans and the elderly in a cupcake decoration activity, facilitated by the hotel’s chefs. The activity was recorded on video by the staff members, who subsequently uploaded the videos to the social media accounts of each ARTOTEL branch.

Through the social activity, the group sought to encourage the wider public to pay more attention to and socialize with orphans and the elderly – people who are largely ignored by society – by visiting them at the orphanages and nursing homes and involving them in activities that will give them joy.

According to ARTOTEL Group assistant director for marketing communications Yulia Maria, through this type of activity, Valentine’s Day was celebrated in a more inclusive manner, rather than just focusing on romantic activities enjoyed by only those with romantic partners.
