he Jakarta administration has prepared supporting data on the controversial closure of Jl. Jatibaru Raya in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, which was brought to the Jakarta Police’s headquarters on Friday following the latter’s decision to launch a probe into the matter.
The Jakarta Transportation Agency will bring the results of a survey carried out by the Jakarta Communications, Information and Statistics Agency from December, when the road was first closed, to the end of February, according to agency head Andri Yansyah.
The survey, he added, proved the closure did not have a negative impact on those affected by it.
“We are ready. We will definitely follow all the legal process,” he said as quoted by tempo.co.
The Jakarta Police’s special crimes unit planned to question transportation agency officials following a report made on Feb. 22 by Jack Boyd Lapian, secretary-general of the Cyber Indonesia community. Jack argued in the report that the city administration’s decision to close Jl. Jatibaru Raya to accommodate street vendors contravened a prevailing regulation on the capital’s roads.
Head of the city administration’s statistics unit, Linda, said that more than 50 percent of the 500 respondents surveyed – comprising street vendors, residents and commuters – conceded that they were not disturbed by the closure of Jl. Jatibaru Raya.
She declined to reveal additional data collected in the survey, but promised to distribute its full results on Friday afternoon. (vny)
