Senior Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan will depart for Singapore on Monday to undergo a medical examination for his injured eyes caused by an acid attack in April last year.

During the examination slated for Tuesday and Wednesday, doctors will determine whether Novel is in good condition before undergoing a second surgery for his heavily injured left eye.

"If doctors find that his pre-surgery condition is OK, the surgery is scheduled to take place on Friday," KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said on Monday.

On April 11 last year, two unidentified men threw acid onto Novel's face, resulting in serious injuries to his face and eyes. He was taken to Singapore to receive intensive treatment, including major eye surgery in August last year.

Since then, the top investigator has been undergoing minor surgeries, including eye membrane replacement surgery in early February to accelerate his recovery. Novel eventually returned home on Feb. 22 after 10 months in Singapore.

The police have yet to find the perpetrators after almost a year of investigation. (ahw)
