workers’ organization has expressed its concern over the replacement of five directors at state-owned energy company Pertamina, including president director Elia Massa Manik, saying the reshuffle could negatively affect both Pertamina employees and the company.
“How can Pertamina become a world-class energy company if there is a [frequent] change of directors? And there should be a rearrangement of work programs,” said Federation of the United Pertamina Workers Association president Arie Gumilar in Jakarta on Monday as reported by tempo.co.
He was referring to the dismissal of Elia and four other directors during a shareholders meeting on Friday. The meeting appointed human resources director Nicke Widyawati as acting president director.
Arie speculated that the reshuffle had been sparked by the business and political interests of certain parties.
A similar concern was also expressed by Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) economist Bhima Yudhistira Adhinegara, who said that such an abrupt replacement could affect the company’s performance.
“It will surely affect the strategic policies of the company. The people in the company have to adjust to the new directors,” he added.
The State-owned Enterprises Ministry previously revealed a number of reasons for the reshuffle, including to accelerate the establishment of an oil and gas holding company and due to a recent oil spill in Balikpapan Bay. (bbn)
