ndonesia secured the needed first victory in the Uber Cup women’s team championship as it defeated Malaysia 3-2 in a group stage match on Monday.
Malaysia led the first match in a best-of-five series at IMPACT Arena in Bangkok after Soniia Cheah beat Indonesian hopeful Fitriani 10-21, 21-17 and 21-14 in the singles category.
In the second match, Indonesia made an equalizer after world number six pair Greysia Polii and Apriani Rahayu crushed new duo Yea Ching Goh and Lee Meng Yean 21-13 and 21-14 in 40 minutes.
Young gun Gregoria Mariska Tunjung contributed another win to support Indonesia’s 2-1 lead as she upset world number 31 Goh Jin Wei.
Della Destiara Haris and Rizki Amelia Pradipta secured the country's victory after winning a thrilling battle against Vivian Hoo and Chow Mei Kuan in a stretched match 24-22, 20-22 and 21-12 in 79 minutes.
Ruselli Hartawan failed to continue the good trend as she lost 21-23, 23-21 and 21-13 to Selvaduray Kisona in a one-hour match.
