Kembangan Police chief Comr. Supriadi said the men had sharp weapons and small bags of gasoline with them.
“We believe that they were going to throw [gasoline] on their opponents,” Supriadi said on Thursday as reported by kompas.com.
The 12 men are residents of Pedongkelan Kapuk in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, he added.
One of the suspects told police that he had gone to Kampung Baru to resolve a dispute and called his friends, who later arrived with machetes and gasoline.
The group attracted the attention of local residents, who then called the police.
The 12 are currently being detained at Kembangan Police headquarters.
