India and ASEAN relations have been growing rapidly in many fields in recent years, says outgoing Indian Ambassador to ASEAN Suresh K. Reddy (center in top photo) .

“We have excellent relations with ASEAN and these relations have been growing rapidly in recent years,” Ambassador Suresh said at a farewell party, which he hosted in Jakarta recently.

Suresh was the first Indian ambassador to ASEAN. In line with the growing relations between the South Asian behemoth and ASEAN, India opened the Indian mission to ASEAN in Jakarta in 2015.

The ambassador and his spouse Sneha Reddy (right in top photo) expressed their gratitude to their Indian and ASEAN friends.

ASEAN Secretary-General Dato Lim Jock Hoi (second left in top photo) , Vietnam’s Permanent Representative to ASEAN Ambassador Nguyen Hoanh Nam (left in top photo), diplomatic corps and Indonesian public figures attended the farewell party.

Suresh also introduced his successor, ambassador-designate Rudrendra Tandon (second right in top photo) to the audience. Tandon was in Jakarta to attend the 18th ASEAN India Joint Cooperation Committee, which was held on June 22.

The India-ASEAN Commemorative in New Delhi in January 2018 was a major milestone in relations between India and ASEAN.

Indian trade with ASEAN is growing rapidly , while the number of Indian investments and Indian tourists to ASEAN countries are also growing.

In 2016, India’s trade with ASEAN jumped significantly to almost US$71.6 billion, a huge increase from $65.1 billion in 2015.
