roduction house Stay Co. Media released a poster for the upcoming drama comedy Pariban: Idola dari Tanah Jawa (Cousin: The Idol from Java), which stars Atiqah Hasiholan and Ganindra Bimo.
The poster features Atiqah’s smiling face combined with the silly faces of Ganindra and Rizki Mocil. With a pink background, the poster accentuates the look of bolon, a traditional house of Batak and ulos (traditional cloth). There is also an urban view of Jakarta along with the National Monument (Monas).
Director Andibachtiar Yusuf explains that the film is inspired from circumstances that Batak youths have to face every day.
“Pariban itself is a term used for cousins in Batak society that are usually paired by the parents,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.
“To this day, the youth of Batak get ‘Have you got a pariban?’ questions, especially for those who are still single. They get that question all the time!”
The film tells the story of Moan (Ganindra), a Batak man who has lived in Jakarta for a long time. He is 37 years old but does not have a girlfriend yet. This situation stresses out his mother, who lives in Samosir, leading her to intervene. Moan is then taken home to marry his cousin, Uli (Atiqah).
Unexpectedly, Uli, a beautiful woman who loves Batak culture, already has a lover. The film will be released in theaters in October.
