Indonesian property developer PT Alam Sutera Realty Tbk. (Alam Sutera) is announcing its readiness to launch the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park in Badung, Bali, by conducting a local melaspas purification ritual.
The cultural park, which is marked by a 121-meter-tall Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue as its centerpiece, seeks to be an international multi-event venue. It took 28 years for Indonesian visual artist I Nyoman Nuarta to finish the statue.
The park itself stands on a spacious 60-hectare compound, and is capable of accommodating a total of 40,000 people in its outdoor and indoor venues.
Conducted on Aug. 8 within the cultural park’s compound, the melaspas ritual followed a Hindu purification tradition seeking to attain a spiritual balance, which will attract goodness to the place. The ceremony was attended by Alam Sutera president commissioner Haryanto Tirtohadiguno.
The purification ceremony was the final part of a series of traditional rituals that the developer had conducted as they were ready to launch the park. The traditional rituals symbolize the developer’s desire that the park’s operations coexist harmoniously with its natural surroundings.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is slated to officially open the park sometime in August or September.
“We hope the public will enjoy the cultural park as one of the world famous cultural icons of Indonesia, just like the Borobudur and Prambanan temples [in Central Java, near Yogyakarta], of which we are proud. We also hope the park will contribute positively to public engagement in arts and culture while improving people’s socio-economic welfare,” Haryanto said.
“We hope that we collectively continue to take care of the cultural park so that generations to come will be able to continue enjoying it,” he added.
