hina crushed Timor Leste 6-0 in their Group C men’s soccer opener during the 18th Asian Games round robin at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday.
Champion of the 1954 and 1958 Games China, which applied an aggressive approach from the beginning of the match, immediately earned a corner kick that was successfully converted into a goal from a Zhang Yuning header in the fourth minute.
Zhang Yuan, 21, made another goal for China in the 20th minute as his shot tore into Timor Leste goalkeeper Silva Pereira’s net.
China, the 1998 Games bronze medalist, was indeed too powerful for Timor Leste as its defense often tricked Timor’s forward Marcal Alberto Gelvanio with offside traps.
Unstoppable China bombarded Timor Leste with more goals, which were produced by Gao Zhunyi’s header in the 26th minute, Wei Shihao in the 33rd minute and Yao Junsheng in the 36th.
In the second half Gao made another fruitful header in the 45th minute that handed his team the 6-0 wipeout.
In return, Timor Leste tried to break China’s defense, making threats in the 71st and 73rd minutes but to no avail.
China owned the match and took a deserved three points for the leaderboard.
