The Indonesian Embassy in Azerbaijan recently hosted the Indonesian Cultural Festival (ICF) 2018 to introduce Indonesian culture to the people there.

Present at the festival, which was held from Sept. 13 to 15, was Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy. “This [ICF 2018] is being held to promote the dignity and self-worth of the Indonesian people. It is one of the best festivals. I am proud,” Muhadjir said, as quoted by kompas.com.

Muhadjir expressed hope that the two nations could cooperate not just in sharing culture, but also in the education sector, specifically in teaching Indonesian in Azerbaijani universities.

According to Indonesian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Husnan Bey Fananie, the event was proof of Indonesia’s increasing relevance in Azerbaijan.

“ICF is proof that we want to promote our cultural, economic and diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan. You can see the great enthusiasm of the people of Azerbaijan who are attending ICF 2018,” Husnan said.

The festival showed off many of Indonesia’s traditional cultural offerings, such as its dances. These included the ondel-ondelprampak gendangmambri and tulang bawang barat Lampung dances.

There were also authentic Indonesian products such as batik, wooden handicrafts and cakes, as well as tourism promotion. Visitors also got to see pencak silat athletes, Indonesian calligraphers and musicians such as Dwiki Dharmawan and Amelia Ong.

A number of Indonesia’s ministries took part in ICF 2018, including the Foreign Ministry, the Education and Culture Ministry, the Tourism Ministry, the Youth and Sports Ministry and the Religious Affairs Ministry.
