he Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) dispatched six more volunteers from Jambi to Palu, Central Sulawesi, on Monday, to help in the recovery efforts following last month’s earthquake and tsunami.
According to the deputy head of PMI Jambi, Tedjo Sukmono, all the volunteers are trained in fields such as sanitation and logistics, as well as search and rescue. “All of them underwent training in PMI’s central headquarters [in Jakarta] for a week,” Tedjo said on Monday.
One of the volunteers, Anthonio Franky, specializes in search and rescue. He will focus on guiding victims through the trauma-healing process as well as looking for missing family members.
Aside from dispatching volunteers, PMI Jambi also delivered aid such as staple foods, donated clothes and Rp 100 million (US$ 6,565) in cash.
Tedjo said the aid had been arranged independently without government support, and the donations from the public would be used to fund the volunteers.
