Every heavy rain is usually followed by flooding in the area.
Heavy rain in East Jakarta on Thursday afternoon left Duren Sawit with 70 centimeters of inundation.
As reported by kompas.com, vehicles passing the street made U-turns to avoid the flooded Jl. Nusa Indah Raya in Malaka Jaya, while an angkot (minivan) tried to pass through a puddle, only to get stuck.
The angkot, which was at full capacity, had to be pushed out of the puddle.
A resident, Ius, said the area was prone to flooding. “It floods frequently here. Every heavy rain is followed by flooding,”
He said the drainage system was narrow. “The sewer is routinely cleaned but maybe it can’t contain the water because it’s too small," he said. (gis)
