Saulat Abbas’ fantastic knock gives Jaguar CC thrilling win

Three games were played this weekend in the GMIS JCA league, with Yadavas Chairos Tigers playing a double-header and winning one of them. Jaguar CC and Ceylon CC won the other two games.

Jaguar CC won the toss and elected to bowl first. Jagdeep Singh’s decision was vindicated when Bena Elly fell early. Gamantika Kadek continued his fine run from the World Cup qualifiers to hold up the other end.

The recently married Karanjit Singh kept chipping away with wickets at the other end and did not allow significant partnerships to develop and at 147 for 7, the Tigers were in danger of being bowled out cheaply. However, Elvidus Ikun batted well to take his team past 200, and at the stage it looked like a winning score.

Due to some technical delays, the match had to be reduced to a 30-over affair with Jaguars needing 174 to win. Elvidus shone with the ball as well to reduce Jaguars to 21 for 4 and the game looked strongly in the grasp of the Tigers.

But Saulat Abbas rebuilt the innings through partnerships with Karanjit Singh and Nitin Sharma to take the score to 136 for 6 with plenty of overs to spare. Gema Fajar took two quick wickets to get the Tigers back in the game but the battle between the two big cats swung again. Saulat counterattacked and took his side home with two wickets to spare.

The Tigers took on Texmoda TKCC Royals in their second game and were once again sent in to bat by the opposition. Mukesh Khetan got TKCC off to an exciting start by claiming two wickets in the first two balls of the game. He returned with another wicket in his second over and Tigers were in dire straits at 4 for 3.

Then followed one of the best partnerships seen in the league as Indonesian skipper Muhaddis and Ahmad Ramdoni fought back with a brilliant 131-run stand to bring the Tigers roaring back into the game. Despite Swaroop taking the wickets of Maneesh and Poonam Bumb, the Tigers managed to finish on a competitive 204 runs in their 35 overs.

Texmoda TKCC Royals started off cautiously against some good bowling by Gede Darma Arta who got rid of the openers, which opened things up for the Tigers. Fernandes Nato and Gamantika kept up the pressure and kept chipping away with regular wickets.

Rajesh Santhanam held up one end well until he perished to the guiles of Gamantika. Tigers keeper Ramdoni had a field way with five dismissals and the run-rate pressure got a pile of wickets at the end despite a good fight by Maneesh Tripathi.

Ceylon CC comfortably beat Emerio CC in a low-scoring T20 encounter in the third game of the weekend. Ceylon used seven bowlers and six of them took wickets as Emerio’s batting never got going with Sanjeewa Senayanake claiming a three-wicket haul. Vineet Kumar was the topscorer for Emerio as he ensured his team got to the psychologically important score of 100.

Ahmad Abbas Khan got rid of the openers early to give Emerio some hope of defending their low score, but the experienced duo of Baba Sivasankaran and Mufasil PM occupied the crease long enough to take their side home.
