he Jakarta Transportation Agency is imposing new parking fees at the IRTI parking lot at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta, where civil servants usually park their vehicles at very low rates.
The agency’s acting head, Sigit Wijatmoko, said the fees would be increased substantially.
“The parking fee for cars was previously Rp 66,000 [US$4.7] per month, it will now become Rp 550,000 a month,” Sigit said on Thursday as reported by kompas.com.
As for motorcycles, the parking fee has been raised to Rp 352,000 a month from the previous Rp 22,000 per month.
Sigit said the new fees would apply for all vehicles as of Jan. 15.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan had said he would increase the parking fees at the IRTI Monas parking lot, located across from City Hall, for the city’s civil servants.
The increased parking fees are designed to encourage civil servants to take advantage of the Transjakarta bus service, which they can use free on production of their employee cards.
