The West Jakarta Police have identified 25 motorcycle gangs that reportedly often create public disorder.
“We’ve arrested [members of] eight of the 25 gangs identified,” West Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Hengki Haryadi said on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co.
Two of the eight gangs were allegedly involved in recent attacks.
Members of one gang are suspected to have been involved in an assault incident in Tanah Sereal Raya in Tambora on Jan. 20 that killed a resident named Adam Ilham. Police have arrested 12 alleged members of the gang.
The other gang has been accused of an assault on Ahmad Al Fandri in Tanjung Duren on Feb. 5. Police have detained 14 suspected members of the group.
“Four gang members from the Tanjung Duren incident are junior high school students,” Hengki said.
Hengki said the gang members had committed an assault that escalated into murder because the perpetrators had been under the influence of drugs such as Tramadol. He also suspected that the gangs went about their activities with the help of social media.
