"The perpetrators were allegedly drunk, so after they ordered their food, they became impatient,” Pondok Gede Police said.
wo unidentified men who attacked a pecel lele (fried catfish) vendor in Bekasi, West Java, are believed to have been drunk during the incident and are reported to have been angered by slow service.
“The perpetrators were allegedly drunk, so after they ordered their food, they became impatient. Because they were drunk, they were easily annoyed,” Pondok Gede Police chief Comr. Suwari said on Tuesday as quoted by jakarta.tribunnews.com, referring to the incident on Jl. Jatimakmur in Pondok Gede.
Suwari said the victim, Achmad Zunaidi, 49, had tried to serve the suspects as he would any other customer.
“They had not waited for too long. The pecel lele vendor has to cook the food first. If the customers had been sober they would have understood,” Suwari said.
The incident occurred around 2.30 a.m. on March 10. The attackers punched Achmad and beat him with a wooden stick until he called out for help from his younger brother, who sold toast nearby.
Suwari added that besides beating up the victim, the perpetrators also damaged his stall, after which they left on their motorbike.
Achmad was taken to Kramatjati Hospital in East Jakarta for treatment for facial injuries. The Pondok Gede Police are now looking for the perpetrators. (gis)
