As Ramadan is around the corner, the city administration has made plans to ensure an adequate food supply.
he Jakarta administration has predicted that food demand will increase by 10 percent during Ramadan, which will begin next week, and has prepared measures to anticipate the surge.
Relevant agencies and city-owned enterprises have communicated to ensure food supplies as well as made strategic moves to control prices. The city has also prepared to run cheap markets.
“We can ensure that the basic needs of the people of Jakarta and the surrounding area will be fulfilled [during Ramadan and Idul Fitri],” city secretary Saefullah, who also heads the Jakarta inflation control team, said on Monday following a meeting with relevant stakeholders at City Hall, as reported by the administration's official website.
Three city-owned enterprises; PD Dharma Jaya, Pasar Jaya and PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya have prepared to welcome the fasting month by providing sufficient food supplies.
PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya, for instance, has prepared 20,000 tons of rice, 1,000 tons of chicken eggs, 2.4 million liters of milk and 600 tons of sugar, among other things.
PD Dharma Jaya has prepared 1,080 tons of beef and 1,000 tons of chicken meat, meanwhile Pasar Jaya will provide a sufficient supply of staple foods, which includes rice, shallots, chili and chicken meat for the fasting month. (fac)
