urabaya Mayor Tri “Risma” Rismaharini is currently being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Dr. Soetomo General Hospital in Surabaya, East Java, reportedly for gastritis and asthma.

Risma was transferred on Tuesday evening from Dr. Soewandhi General Hospital after being admitted on Monday morning for asthma.

“Some 10 specialists and 15 subspecialists are currently treating the mayor,” Dr. Soetomo General Hospital spokesperson Pesta Parulian, who is also an anesthetist, told a press briefing in Surabaya on Wednesday.

Pesta said the mayor had been transferred because the previous hospital lacked the specialists to treat her.

“She is getting better and her condition is relatively stable, but a limited number of people is allowed to visit her,” said Surabaya Health Agency head Febria Rachmanita.

In addition to having just returned home from Liverpool in the United Kingdom, Risma had also joined a cleaning event at the Heroes Monument area prior to falling ill.

“Maybe that’s what made her sick,” Febria added.

Risma is scheduled to undergo a series of intensive examinations by specialists, including a cardiologist, radiologist, clinical pathologist and microbiologist.

Asked about the possibility that Risma might be suffering from pneumonia, Pesta said the symptoms of lung diseases often looked like those of pneumonia.

“All diseases related to the lungs will look like pneumonia. This is why we are carefully examining her; to see if it is really [pneumonia] or not,” she added.
