Yogyakarta Governor Hamengkubuwono was serious about representing his region at the fourth Indonesia Festival in Moscow this year.
He reserved a strategic spot for his booth, bringing in everything from local artists to a three-wheeled pedicab to promote Javanese culture. He also sent out a video message in the Russian language directed at potential tourists and investors.
The Yogyakarta booth at Krasnaya Presnya Park was crowded with Russian visitors during the three-day Indonesia Festival, which lasted until Sunday. Tea was his leading commodity. Wearing Javanese attire, booth attendants patiently talked about the Yogyakarta special region’s tourist destinations.
“You will feel at home in Yogyakarta. For investors, we will have completed all requirements that you need, even before your arrival,” the governor told a business forum on Friday.
Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo and West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno were among those who were also active in introducing their provinces to businesspeople and Russians.
The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), the Tourism Ministry and the Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Ministry also participated.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Ambassador to Russia and Belarus Wahid Supriyadi dutifully made good on President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s most important instruction to Indonesian ambassadors, as the President had ordered his envoys to bring home more investment, boost exports and provide maximum protection for Indonesian citizens.
