fire broke out in a shophouse on Jl. Raya Cipayung in Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Friday morning, reportedly claiming at least three lives.
The Jakarta Disaster and Management Agency (BPBD), through its official Twitter account @BPBDJakarta, reported the incident at 4:55 a.m.
Officers from the fire and rescue agency, the transportation agency, the public order agency (Satpol PP), the police and the Indonesian Military worked together to extinguish the fire.
A total of 15 fire trucks were deployed to put out the flames.
@BPBDJakarta reported at 6:55 a.m. that the fire had been put out.
The cause of the blaze remained unknown.
The incident left three people dead as they were apparently trapped inside the shophouse when the fire started at dawn, kompas.com has reported. (sau/afr)
