Indonesia's Lindswell Kwok brings home another gold medal from Kuala Lumpur in the martial art of wushu .
Indonesian wushu athlete Lindswell Kwok contributed another gold medal from the sports in the women’s taijijian (Taiji straight sword) category – following the success of compatriot Felda Evira Santoso in the morning – in the 2017 SEA Games.
Lindswell, who won two gold medals for Indonesia in the 2015 SEA Games in Myanmar, emerged as the top finisher after scoring 9.68 points, edging out the host country’s Yee Jo Audrey Chan, who finished second with 9.64 points.
Yee performed first with strong backing from the Malaysian fans packing the venue at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.
However, Lindswell showed no signs of intimidation in an all-out performance that convinced the jurors and elicited cheers from dozens of Indonesian supporters and some foreign spectators.
Lindswell said she had been suffering from injuries in both of her knees since 2011.
“But today I am very happy, because I could pull out maximum efforts for the game,” Lindswell, who is from Medan in North Sumatra, told reporters after the game.
In the morning, Felda bagged a gold medal after she upstaged teammate Monica Pransiswa Sugianto with a score of 9.67 against the latter’s 9.66.
Indonesia aims to bring home at least three gold medals from wushu during the SEA Games, which run until the end of this week. Indonesia’s wushu team leader, Erwin Wijaya, said, “We are on a positive track to reach our target.”
