Semarang holds Denok – Kenang 2017 beauty pageant

he Culture and Tourism Board (Disbudpar) of Semarang is holding a tourism pageant aimed at local youngsters called Denok – Kenang Semarang 2017.
Themed “Pancarkan Kemilaumu, Tebarkan Pesonamu, Kenali Budayamu” (Radiate your glow, extend your charm and know your culture), this annual beauty pageant event is named 'Denok-Kenang' because denok is Javanese for daughter while kenang is the term for son.

The online applications for those who want to participate are open until July 3 and can be accessed at bit.ly/denokkenang2017.
Documents submission will run until July 5 at the Disbudpar office on Jl. Pemuda No. 175.
The audition round will be held on July 7, at Java Mall Semarang, where 10 best pairs will be chosen to continue to the grand finale.
The denok and kenang titles are awarded to those who possess broad knowledge and views on different issues.
“We’re looking for the young generation that fits the criteria of Denok - Kenang to become the city and tourism ambassadors. We’re very selective in choosing the participants, we don’t just select them based on their good looks,” said Masdiana Safitri, head of Disbudpar Semarang. (asw)
