Only 30 minutes from Singapore, Batam in Riau Islands serves as the go-to holiday destination for many Singaporeans.

Many affordable activities can be found in the city, such as the Family Bonding Staycation that is part of a joint promotion between Batam View Beach Resort and Lucas Event Singapore.

“Tourists from Singapore will be invited to cook Indonesian dishes in the evening by the poolside. On the second day, they will have a city tour around Batam,” said Batam View Beach Resort general manager Andy Fong.

The first leg of the program was conducted on June 3 to 4 and was joined by a total of 38 families from Singapore. From chopping vegetables to cutting chicken meat, the participants seemed to be in good spirits following the chef’s instruction to cook ayam penyet (smashed fried chicken) by the beach during the two-day event.

The Family Bonding Staycation will be held once every two weeks with the upcoming event slated for June 17. (kes)
