“The event will feature a tumpeng [cone-shaped yellow rice] cooking activity joined by every neighborhood unit and majlis taklim [Quran study group]. Each year we receive more than 20 portions of tumpeng and 1,000 rice boxes from participants,” said committee head Muhlis bin Machin.
The Ramadhan kenduri event will also offer other activities, such as a pesantren kilat anak (a short Islamic boarding school for children), a Ramadhan bazaar, breaking-of-the-fast meals with locals and charity events.
“Sometimes, among the 1,000 participants who take part in this event are those who hail from Malaysia and Singapore,” added Muhlis. (kes)
