T

ourism Minister Arief Yahya has recently launched Borobudur International Festival (BIF) 2017 in Sapta Pesona building in Central Jakarta.

The event is set to be held on July 28-30 in Magelang, Central Java.

“Congratulations to Central Java and GenPi [Indonesian Charms Generation] Jateng, the #PesonaBIF hashtag was among the trending topic list in Indonesia,” said Arief during his opening remark.

The launching event was opened with a performance of Gambang Semarang dance accompanied by gamelan music.

“The performance, choreography and music were all great, so did the fashion; worthy to be performed in front of President Joko Widodo and international audience,” Arief praised the opening dance.

The 4th BIF will feature 13 events, of which eight are cultural events.

In addition to cultural performances from various regions in the country, the event will also host museum and archaeological exhibition and a familiarization (fam) trip to Borobudur Temple and tourist villages around the temple.

Foreign participants from Japan, China and India are also set to take part in the festival.

Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo who attended the launching event said that he expected the event to be able encourage other regions to come up with similar events.

“A few days ago Solo hosted a batik carnival; similar events were also held in Pekalongan and Batang. Hopefully these events can boost tourism and encourage participation from the public to improve their local economy,” said Ganjar. (kes)
