ourism minister Arief Yahya has instructed all employees of the first, second and third echelons to come in a traditional outfit for the Tourism National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) III 2017 that will be held in Jakarta on September 26 -27.

“This is to show a diverse Indonesia as diversity is one of this country’s biggest forces in the tourism industry,” said Arief.

This is not the first time for the minister to ask his colleagues to wear traditional costumes to an official event. At this year’s Independence Day celebration Arief also required all attendees to don traditional costumes.

Instead of calling the dress code "national costume", Arief preferred to use the term "archipelago costume".

“[National costume] means uniformity whilst our environment is very diverse,” he added.

The third Rakornas will discuss the Calendar of Events 2018 in order to achieve next year’s target of 17 million international tourists and 270 million domestic tourists.

“The synergy for Wonderful Indonesia Calendar of Events 2018 is very important because we want to have more than 100 international-scale premium events to increase tourist visits in 2018. That’s why each region should be encouraged to come up with international events that will be included in the Calendar of Events,” told Arief. (asw)
