ingapore Airlines (SIA) has announced it signed an order for 39 Boeing airplanes, comprising 20 777-9 aircraft and 19 787-10 Dreamliners. According to Boeing’s published price list, the deal is said to be valued at US$13.8 billion.
These new airplanes will be used to expand the airline’s network and travel options for its customers. The 777-9s will mostly service long-haul routes, while the 787-10 Dreamliners are planned to fly medium-range routes. According to Boeing, the 787-10 Dreamliner is the latest member of the 787 family. Singapore Airlines is due to receive the delivery of the 787-10s in the first half of 2018. Previously, the airline also ordered 30 Boeing 787-10 aircraft.

“Boeing and Singapore Airlines have been strong partners since the airline first began operations 70 years ago and we are thrilled to finalize their purchase of 20 777-9s and 19 additional 787-10 Dreamliners,” said Kevin McAllister, the president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, in a press release.
The signing took place at the White House, Washington DC, on Oct. 23, in a ceremony that was witnessed by US President Donald Trump. Singapore Airlines was represented by CEO Goh Choon Phong and chairman Peter Seah, while Boeing Commercial Airplanes was represented by president and CEO Kevin McAllister and senior vice president of Asia Pacific and India Sales Dinesh Keskar.
“Singapore Airlines has been a Boeing customer for many decades and we are pleased to have finalized this major order for widebody aircraft, which will enable us to continue operating a modern and fuel-efficient fleet,” said Goh. (asw)
